In the 1990 timeframe, the information systems industry was undergoing traumatic change as new technologies in the areas of distributed processing, database, and CASE (Computer Aided Software Engineering) were changing the way applications could be bult. Cooperative processing and client/server architectures presented new opportunities and challenges for system development and information planning. The CASE market was experiencing a major shift as a result of IBM’s announcement of AD/Cycle, a framework for integrated CASE technology. In the following interview, George Schussel, President of Digital Consulting, Inc., discussed the relationship between cooperative processing and client/server architecture, the impact client/server architecture was having on the distributed database market, and changes in the CASE market resulting from the AD/Cycle announcement.
